A Beautiful Day

I’m not necessarily talking about the weather here today, but in Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. While I haven’t been to a theater in decades, I do occasionally purchase (very few) films that get released digitally. IMHO, there isn’t much that comes out of Hollywood that is worthy of my time, but what about the Tom Hanks film, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood?

Because Joanne Rogers has been a delightful friend for many years (after Fred Rogers’ passing), and after her recommendation AND a similar recommendation from one of my doctors who’s wedding was officiated by Fred Rogers in Pittsburgh, I pre-ordered the home release. This is Joanne Rogers on set during the filming (largely done in Pittsburgh).

And here is her cameo in the film shot in the restaurant sequence:

It’s based on a true story about a journalist (with whom I am also personally acquainted). The storyline was embellished but it doesn’t take away from the main point: the Fred Rogers you saw on TV as a kid on PBS is the very same Fred Rogers you would experience in real life. It’s one of the few films out of Hollywood that I can actually recommend. The official rating is Rating: PG (for some strong thematic material, a brief fight, and some mild language), FYI. It received a whopping 95% on Rotten Tomatoes!
