Day #4

Posted on June 20, 2024 By Andre
Weather

As of last hour (1 p.m.Thursday), we officially hit 90°F for the fourth consecutive day. Additionally, dew points have been in the mega-muggy category (no kidding!).

BUT there is change coming! The pattern allows two distinct pushes of cooler, drier air next week:

A Natural “Umbrealla?”

Wednesday, June 19, 2024

Will the high clouds leftover from Gulf Coast moisture and diurnal thunderstorms from the last 2 days be enough to prevent daytime highs from hitting 90°F?

Stay tuned.

In the meantime, you can feel the humidity hanging heavy in the air now.

Impact!

Here is a good example of what happens when a strong thunderstorm moves in after a steamy, hot summery day:

Heatwave Developing

Weather

There’s a ton of heat developing in the Plains and Western USA. Here are temperatures as of late afternoon Wednesday:

While it comes in “chunks,” the heat will be on the move, dropping anchor east of the Mississippi next week. That will result in a string of 90°F+ days. Thus far, we’ve only seen one 90°F day this year.

Notably Chilly For June

Monday’s high at Hopkins Airport was ONLY 59°F!!! We have to go all the way back to 1972 to find a June 10th with a high in the 50s°F! It was a good day to clean out and shred old files, or any other indoor task one was putting off.

Once that was done, it was good to sit in the YMCA hot tub for a little while to “warm up!”

Highly Recommended

Weather And earth science? Absolutely!

But you’ll also see me share free time moments as I enjoy a new pace of life.

This near-pineapple sized hailstone may have set a new size record for anywhere in the USA! Stay tuned.

June Lake Effect

Weather

Friday, June 7, 2024

The air aloft it’s MUCH cooler… to the point of being “unstable,” capable of producing a plume of lake effect showers in the primary “snow belt” of NEOhio!

A pop-up 3-minute shower could show up anywhere, even inland, later today and the sun gets busy producing bubbles of convection.
